Privacy Policy
Last updated:
SWLStation does not collect, store or transmit any personal data.
All data you enter stays on your device. No account is required. No analytics or tracking of any kind is used.
Data stored on your device
SWLStation stores the following data exclusively on your device, and only at your explicit request:
- Reception log entries (frequency, station, date, SINPO, notes)
- Frequency lists saved in Rig Control
- App settings and preferences
- EiBi and AOKI shortwave schedule databases (downloaded from their respective sources)
This data is never transmitted to any server and is not accessible to the developer.
Network activity
The app connects to the network only in the following cases:
- Database updates: When you tap "Update EiBi Database" or "Update AOKI Database" in Settings, the app downloads the database file from sramp.com. A download counter is incremented anonymously — no personal data is sent.
- Hamlib (rigctld): The app communicates via TCP with a rigctld instance on your local network only. No data is sent to the internet.
- VBAN audio streaming: The app receives audio via UDP from a device on your local network only. No data is sent to the internet.
Speech recognition
When the speech-to-text feature is enabled, audio from the VBAN stream is processed by Apple's Speech Recognition framework (SFSpeechRecognizer).
- On-device mode: all processing happens locally on your device. No audio data leaves your device.
- Online mode: audio is sent to Apple's servers for recognition. This is subject to Apple's Privacy Policy. The microphone is not accessed — only the VBAN audio stream is used.
The app does not record, store or transmit the transcribed text beyond displaying it on screen.
Location
Location access is optional and used solely to pre-fill your listening location in the reception log and on the world map. Your coordinates are stored locally on your device only and are never transmitted.
Permissions requested
Local Network
Required to connect to Hamlib (rigctld) and receive VBAN audio streams from devices on your local network.
Speech Recognition
Required to transcribe audio received via the VBAN stream. Used only when you explicitly enable the speech-to-text feature.
Microphone
Declared as required by the Speech framework. The app does not access the microphone directly — it processes audio from the VBAN network stream only.
Location (When in Use)
Optional. Used to determine your listening location for the reception log and world map. You can enter your location manually instead.
Third-party SDKs and analytics
SWLStation does not use any third-party analytics, advertising, crash reporting or tracking SDK. No data is shared with any third party.
Children's privacy
SWLStation does not collect any personal information from anyone, including children under the age of 13.
